Bernd Göbel "Large couple"

The larger-than-life, closely entwined nude couple in the centre of the upper Leipziger Straße is a work by the Freiberg-born sculptor Bernd Göbel. After studying at Burg Giebichenstein, Bernd Göbel increasingly focussed on the human nude as a group sculpture in the 1970s. In the course of the redesign of Leipziger Strasse as a pedestrian zone, he created this dynamically moving couple, which has an impressive, expansive effect. Göbel is one of Halle's most important sculptors, has created a large number of artworks in the city's public spaces and - like his teacher Gerhard Lichtenfeld - has trained and influenced an entire generation of sculptors.
