Cathedral and Cathedral Square
Find peace and quiet in a hidden gem
If you approach the Cathedral through the alleyways to the side of Kleine Ulrichstraße, the first thing you see are the round gables stretching up towards the sky like petals. Two or three more steps and the cathedral reveals itself in its entirety. It rests confidently in its light-coloured robe. It knows what it was and what it is: Dominican monks began building the original monastery church in the 13th century. Around 1523, Cardinal Albrecht elevated it to the status of a collegiate church. Today, the Cathedral is one of the oldest church buildings in Halle (Saale) and, together with the Cathedral Square, invites visitors to organ concerts and contemplative breaks.
