Cathleen Meier "Old Town Hall"
The "Old Town Hall" sculpture is a bronze replica of Halle's town hall, which was heavily damaged in the Second World War and completely demolished between 1948 and 1950. The building was erected in the middle of the 15th century on the site of a previous building (probably from the 14th century) and was given its final architectural form between 1558 and 1568 under the city's master builder, Nickel Hoffmann. The Altes Rathaus Halle (Saale) e. V. board of trustees has set itself the task of communicating the eventful history of this building to the public. The sculpture is intended to commemorate the former council building and to thank the donors who are committed to the reconstruction of the building. The artist Cathleen Meier studied sculpture under Bernd Göbel at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle from 1992 to 1997. Her work and creative focus is now back in her native city of Magdeburg.
