Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom
An inspiration for Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Founded by Prince Franz in the 18th century, the Garden Kingdom extends over an area of around 140 square kilometres. Among the numerous palaces, which represent the diversity of the epochs, is the classicist Wörlitz Palace, which was the Prince's first project. He not only pursued a harmonious image of nature, but also the idea that his visitors should be able to give free rein to their philosophical thoughts - very much in the spirit of the Enlightenment. One returning visitor was the poet and thinker Goethe. The Garden Kingdom has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. To experience it to the full, we recommend a trip in a gondola.
