Graseweghaus
A house full of history
Not far from the lively market square, history and modernity come together in this half-timbered house, which is over 400 years old. The three-storey residential building is one of the oldest and most beautiful in Halle (Saale). Behind its neat half-timbered façade are the life stories of families of craftsmen and merchants. But even more exciting is the gruesome legend behind its name: In the late Middle Ages, citizens allegedly walled up the alleyway next to the house because of the plague and left the sick to their fate. When the walls were opened ten years later, a grass-covered path full of skeletons was revealed - today's Graseweg.
