Irmela and Martin Hadelich "Gifts of the peoples" 1966-1968
Irmela Hadelich, who studied art education at the Kunsthochschule Berlin from 1946 to 1948 and attended a so-called "Werk-Lehrseminar" at the Burg Giebichenstein - Kunstschule und Werkstätten der Stadt Halle-Saale for two semesters, together with her husband Martin Hadelich, created her largest work in terms of surface area for Halle-Neustadt. There are 27 life-size people from 16 countries depicted in their typical regional clothing and with typical national attributes. The work is based on the overarching theme of "Friendship between nations" and was created using the mosaic technique. Work on the mural took a total of two years. The tiles of the original 20 metre long and 2 metre high mural were attached directly to the wall surface on site. In 2001, the mural was removed in the course of renovation work and now reinstalled on neighbouring wall surfaces, divided into the individual scenes.
