Large car park south
The lift garage is one of the oldest multi-storey car parks in Germany and, built between 1927 and 1929, is another example of modernism in Saxony-Anhalt. The architect and building contractor Walter Tutenberg erected an impressive iron and glass construction in the form of the Großgarage Süd car park on the edge of the Luther housing estate in the south of Halle. At the time, it had 150 parking spaces on four levels, grouped around a high atrium with a glass roof and façade. The vehicles could be parked in separate boxes to save space, which were closed with steel blinds. The upper parking decks could be reached via a lift and a sliding platform - a so-called "trolley". Today, it can be accessed via a spiral driveway.
