Market Church "Unser Lieben Frauen"
The city's landmark with the striking Watchman Towers
The Market Church is a place steeped in history: Martin Luther preached here three times on his last journey. The original death mask of Martin Luther and an imprint of his hands are among the treasures and artefacts of the Reformation period that the Market Church in Halle is richly endowed with. The pulpit from Luther's time is a high-ranking work of Central German Renaissance carving. The city's famous son George Frideric Handel was also baptised in this church. A unique experience is the ascent of the Watchman Towers ("Hausmannstürme") of the Market Church, which provides a fantastic overview of the city as well as an exciting insight into the life of the tower keepers.
