Red Ox Memorial
Living remembrance and reminder
The name can only vaguely be traced back to the red brickwork of the buildings. However, the horrors that took place here during the Nazi era, later under Soviet occupation and during the GDR era were carefully documented. The "Red Ox" memorial was established next to the Halle (Saale) prison in 1996. The rooms that were once used for holding prisoners, executions and interrogations are now filled with a sensitively staged permanent exhibition. On heavy metal panels, this place of remembrance and reminiscence revisits an important chapter in Halle's history. Valuable encounters are created during discussions with contemporary witnesses, book presentations and lectures.
