Red Tower
The largest carillon in Europe
When it comes to the landmarks of Halle (Saale), superlatives are a must. The 84 metre high Red Tower is the tallest medieval building in the city. Inside: Europe's largest carillon with 76 bells, from which regular carillon concerts elicit the most beautiful sounds. Together with the Market Church, it forms the famous silhouette of the five towers that inspired Casper David Friedrich and Lyonel Feininger. Definitely worth seeing and hearing!

Hallelujah for Halle's newborns
A new life is something very special - and should be celebrated as such. Under the motto "A Hallelujah for the newborns of the city of Handel", newborn children in Halle are greeted with sound on the market square every day. Punctually after the hour strikes at 1 pm, the carillon in the Red Tower plays the "Hallelujah" from Handel's oratorio "The Messiah". This is followed by a chime in high C for every child born the day before.
