Rudolf Hilscher "Construction Helper"
Who wants to see hard-working craftsmen
To mark the 10th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of Halle-Neustadt in 1974, this commissioned work entitled "We are building a new city" was created by sculptor Rudolf Hilscher for the Neustadt city centre. The cylindrical cast stone sculpture is dedicated in particular to the voluntary builders of Neustadt and visualises images from the city's history in a surrounding relief. The relief stele depicts scenes of construction workers in discussion and at work, for example, and the inscription "The advice and deeds of our Soviet friends made our city grow faster and become more beautiful" also refers to the fact that supporters from the socialist allied states, primarily from the Soviet Union, were involved in the construction of the city. The sculptor and Weidanz student Rudolf Hilscher studied at Burg Giebichenstein from 1946 to 1952.
