Rudolf Hilscher "Pigeon Fountain (Pigeon flight)" 1970 (1967)
The sculptor Rudolf Hilscher, who graduated in Halle, studied under Gustav Weidanz at the former Burg Giebichenstein art school and workshops in Halle from 1946 to 1950. The artwork "Pigeon Flight" was erected in 1967. It stood in the rose garden for some time and was reworked into a fountain sculpture and installed in the newly built fountain basin in 1970. Following extensive renovation, the "Dove Fountain" has been delighting residents and visitors to the district again since the 60th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of Halle-Neustadt in July 2024. A total of nine pigeons, arranged in a spiral and connected to each other, create the impression of a flock of birds taking flight. This dove motif has also come to symbolise Halle-Neustadt and can be found in the former city coat of arms. The city coat of arms lost its validity in 1990 when Halle-Neustadt was incorporated into Halle.
