Salt Museum of Halle
On the trail of white gold
The traces of the Halloren can be explored on the salt works island between two arms of the river. From 1721 to 1964, the respected salt workers at the Royal Prussian Salt Works drew brine from wells, boiled it, dried it and hauled the resulting salt. The preserved buildings house the Salt Museum of Halle (Saale) and are themselves monuments to industrial culture. In future, the history of salt and Halloren will be presented on over 2,200 square metres of exhibition space. The exhibition shows how the "white gold" that made the city rich is produced. The current participatory exhibition is a foretaste of the future permanent exhibition.
Important note: The museum is currently being remodelled. Please note the current opening hours on the website.
