The current number of overnight stays in Halle (Saale), the city of Handel, continues to develop very positively until August 2023, with double-digit growth of +11 per cent and 281,180 overnight stays (2022: 253,245) from January to August 2023 compared to the same period last year. The growth of the foreign overnight stay market in Halle (Saale) is remarkable. Business and tourist guests from abroad are returning to Halle with growth of almost 18 per cent and 32,317 overnight stays compared to the same period last year. The current increase even tops the record and pre-corona year of 2019 by +5.5 per cent and 30,626 foreign guests*, meaning that never before have so many foreign guests stayed overnight in Halle's accommodation establishments .
"It is noticeable and visible that the award of the contract for the 'Future Centre for German Unity and European Transformation' in February 2023 will also arouse interest and attention for Halle as a location, especially among foreign guests," says Mark Lange, Managing Director of Stadtmarketing Halle (Saale) GmbH. "The centre will have a significant positive impact on Halle's tourism balance and, above all, the foreign overnight market in the future," Lange continues.
Halle's total number of overnight stays is only just under 8 per cent behind the previous result of 292,728 overnight stays (January to August 2019) and above the current state trend of +7.1 per cent and 5,655,448 overnight stays (January to August 2023) in Saxony-Anhalt as a whole.
The autumn and winter season in Halle (Saale) offers many exciting reasons to travel and visit with a variety of events and festivals such as the short film festival Monstrale (17.-22.10.23), the 6th Silbersalz Science & Media Festival (25.-29.10.23), the 16. Film Music Days Saxony-Anhalt with the presentation of the German Film Music Award (19-25 November 23) followed by the Halle Christmas Markets with the Winter Market from 28 November 23 and the "Magical World of Lights" in Germany's only mountain zoo from 19 December 23.
