Are your legs tingling and fancy a whole day out? Friends from out of town visiting spontaneously and still no plan for a child-compatible joint activity? Or exhausted and looking for a family activity where you can relax a little? There is a place in Halle that suits all these different needs of parents: the Peißnitz.
Between the Old and New Towns, the north-flowing Saale River fans out into several arms, which reunite into a single stream just before the Giebichenstein Bridge. The areas in between form the Peißnitzinsel, or rather islands. Four bridges connect the islands with the rest of the city: three on the western side and one on the eastern side. Only one of them is passable for cars. But as most of the paths on the Peißnitz are closed to car traffic anyway, it's best to leave your car at home.
