This year's cultural theme year "Culture of Controversy and Cohesion" marks 33 years since the reunification of Germany. On the Day of German Unity on 3 October 2023, the Halle City Museum, as the director of the theme year, will focus on the people who took to the streets in autumn 1989 and fought for reforms and freedom. With the initiative "Together for Halle - Germany sings", it invites young and old to meet on the market square. A waffle stand, coffee bike and snacks will provide refreshments.
In the programme from 2 p.m., contemporary witnesses from 1989 and those who "crossed over and returned home" will talk about their experiences. Photos and the Böhme speech from November '89 bear witness to the "Awakening to Freedom". The team from the Cultural Theme Years will be on hand to share their controversial thoughts and at the end you can join in a big choir singing "Die Gedanken sind frei" and other well-known songs. >>To the entire programme<<
Call: The revolutionary autumn of 89 - Who was there?
The City Museum is still looking for people who experienced the autumn of 1989 and invites them to a discussion on 3 October 2023. The same applies to all those who left Halle for the West and returned. You are welcome to bring photos, documents or other memorabilia.
