Lake Geiseltal
Recreation on Saxony-Anhalt's largest lake
With an area of 18.4 square kilometres, the Geiseltalsee is not only the largest lake in Saxony-Anhalt, but also the largest man-made lake in Germany. A former open-cast lignite mine, the lake is located east of the town of Mücheln in the Saale district and not far from Merseburg. There are many things to do around the Geiseltalsee. A 28-kilometre circular trail invites cyclists and hiking enthusiasts on a leisurely tour. There are also two lidos and various water sports facilities. Anyone who has always wanted to spend the night in a houseboat also has the opportunity to do so here.
