Kyffhäuser Monument
The third largest monument in Germany
The Kaiser Wilhelm National Monument, also known as the Kyffhäuser Monument, is the third largest monument in Germany. With a height of 81 metres, the Kyffhäuser Monument stands out in the Kyffhäuser Mountains, which are located south of the Harz Mountains. The monument was erected between 1890 and 1896 in honour of Emperor Wilhelm I. In addition to the impressive equestrian statue on the tower of the monument, which shows the former emperor as a general, the associated castle museum invites visitors to view artefacts from the past and a model of the old imperial castle of Kyffhausen. In addition to individual tours, visitors can also sign up for various guided tours.
