Small Market Castle with Tourist Information
Start of every discovery tour
This patrician house was built as an eye-catcher on the Market Square along with other town houses around 1600. With its red façade and stair tower in the inner courtyard, the so-called "Marktschlösschen" is a Renaissance style jewel. Over the centuries, it was the noble home of salt counts, merchants and a pharmacist. Remodelled several times, it housed the pharmacy "Zum Goldenen Löwen" as well as a coffee house, a hardware store, the Ratsschenke and later the historic instruments of the Handel House. Today, the listed building houses the tourist information centre with the hallesaale* and university shop.
