Moritzburg – Art Museum in a Castle
Castle of modernity
Standing in front of the gate tower, you might ask yourself how a remarkable castle was turned into a modern museum. Or you can conquer the castle moat without questions, with mere curiosity, and go in search of clues. The Castle was once the residence of the archbishops of Magdeburg, but during the Thirty Years' War it suffered fire and sieges, leaving only a ruin standing. Today, it stands as an imposing witness of its time made of quarry stone in the midst of modern city streets and houses the Saxony-Anhalt Art Museum. Exciting architecture provides the setting for important sculptures, paintings and prints from the history of 20th century art.
