New Residence
A cosy place to linger and marvel
The New Residence, built by Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg, was originally intended as a Catholic university and is one of the most impressive early Renaissance buildings in Germany. It is also worth taking a look at the garden. The changing exhibitions in the garden of the new residence are always an absolute eye-catcher. At Christmas time, the courtyard of the New Residence is transformed into a breathtaking Christmas wonderland and in spring and summer, opulent fantasy gardens and elaborate creations invite visitors to linger, marvel and dream. Our insider tip: From the Watchman Towers of the Market Church, you have a wonderful view of the Cathedral and the New Residence, which look like a treasure chest when viewed from above thanks to the arched gables.
