The Opera
A music stage in a class of its own
The striking building shines from afar in front of the rippling fountain on Joliot-Curie Square and, with its majestic façade, lines the leafy and blooming square. As one of the leading music theatres in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, it offers a wide range of operas, operettas, musicals, ballets, world premieres and productions for children and young people. The most culturally and historically significant theatre building was constructed between 1884 and 1886 and, alongside the Budapest Opera House, was considered the most technically advanced theatre in Europe. After several renovations, it is now the venue of the Ballet Rossa and the Halle State Orchestra.
