Luther Bible in women's hands
Felicitas von Selmenitz, who came from the lower nobility, had turned to the Reformation at an early age. The Word of God served her as a help in life, a support in raising children and a comfort in their loss. Felicitas is an example of the penetrating power of the Reformation idea and the educational offensive that began with it, especially among women.
The centrepiece of her book collection is the first complete edition of the Bible in Luther's translation with a dedication by Luther: Der Ehrbarn tugentsamen frawen felicitas von Selmenitz meiner Lieben gevatterin Martinus Luther d d
The original Bible is in the Marienbibliothek in Halle.
But you can also take a look and leaf through it here.
